What WiFi actually costs a business
WiFi is a shared, contended medium. Every device on it competes for the same airtime, and performance degrades as you add devices and load. In a business setting that shows up as:
- Inconsistent performance under load. The connection that's fine at 8 AM bogs down when the whole office is on it, on a video call, pushing files.

- Predictability. This is the underrated one. Wired performance doesn't fluctuate with the RF environment, so it doesn't generate the random, hard-to-diagnose "the internet is slow today" problems that eat IT time.
For desktops, VoIP phones, conference room AV, point-of-sale, servers, and anything business-critical, wired is the right default. These are the systems where an outage or a laggy connection costs real money, and they're usually in fixed locations where running a cable is straightforward.
Where WiFi belongs
WiFi is the right tool for what it's good at: laptops, phones, tablets, guest access, and anyone who needs to move around. Mobility is a real business need and WiFi serves it well. The mistake isn't using WiFi — it's using it for the stationary, critical systems that would be more reliable, faster, and more secure on a wire.
